What Is Trigger Pull weight?

Pull weight is the amount of force, in ounces or pounds, required to fire the trigger. Or in other words, how hard you have to squeeze the trigger to shoot your rifle. Timney Trigger experts at our Phoenix, Arizona plant hand-test every trigger in its intended action and then set the pull weight at our factory standard, 3 lbs.

If you prefer a different pull weight you simply select it from the drop down above and your Timney Trigger will be customized to your preference.
The #1 reason to replace your factory trigger with a Timney is accuracy. A lighter, crisper, more consistent trigger pull will make you more accurate with your firearm.

Below is a guide for pull weight selection:

2-2.5 pounds
Light trigger pull weights are great for people shooting lighter weight rifles as they can help keep you on target during the shot. Also common weights for target shooting from a bench.

3-3.5 pounds
By far the most common trigger pull weights -this is great for virtually all applications including target shooting, hunting and 3-gun competitions.

4.0 pounds+
Heavy trigger pull weights are good for cold weather hunting or applications where you may be shooting with gloves on.

Transforming the lowly Ruger American into a tack-driving silhouette superstar

Posted by James Fritz on Aug 5th 2019

I was able to rebuild a Ruger American compact in .22LR into a decent silhouette rifle with an upgrade to the Timney 1.5 lbs. trigger. I also sanded the barrel channel of the stock to make sure the barrel was floated. But the Timney trigger vastly improved the accuracy of that little rifle. Going from the factory 5 lbs. trigger with massive creep to a precision single stage with crisp break was a vast improvement.

    Huge improvement!

I could not get the OEM trigger to have a consistent breaking poundage so I installed this on my brand new Ruger American rimfire Target. It literally cut my group size in half at 100 yd.

    Ruger American Rimfire Trigger

Posted by Jim Lewis on Mar 28th 2019

Like all Timney triggers, the Timney trigger for the Ruger American Rimfire is an excellent trigger. My trigger came pre-set at 1 1/2 pounds and required no further adjustments. Installation was easy requiring the removal of two roll pins and uses the safety parts from the Ruger trigger. The Timney trigger for the Ruger American Rimfire rifle is a very worthwhile upgrade for an already excellent 22 rifle., You won't be disappointed with this trigger,

I got this for my RAR .22 WMR model 8335 ~ SInce I don't have the 1/16th" roll pin punch (I get one today from Amazon) I haven't been able to install it. JUst for comparison it looks like a better machined product than the stock trigger which is one of the major drawbacks IMHO for this weapons platform. Even w/o the install this Timney Trigger is a needed/reqsuired upgrade.I will purchase from Timney again!!!

    Great equalizer

I purchased this the other day. I have been using my RAR with the stock trigger and found myself often pulling the shot either left of right. I decided to give this trigger a try. Wow, it is like a complete mental disturbance that I had to get used to. It breaks cleanly and little to no over-travel. Not having to press that hard is great. Mine is set to 1.5lbs from the stock trigger that I had at factory settings. Although the RAR trigger is adjustable, I never adjusted it myself. I find this trigger to be of very good quality. The installation went without a hitch despite that there were no instructions for my particular rifle, but having removed the stock one, putting the new one was a breeze. I have a hard time believing that a much more expensive trigger is better than this one. I definitely recommend this.
