What Is Trigger Pull weight?

Pull weight is the amount of force, in ounces or pounds, required to fire the trigger. Or in other words, how hard you have to squeeze the trigger to shoot your rifle. Timney Trigger experts at our Phoenix, Arizona plant hand-test every trigger in its intended action and then set the pull weight at our factory standard, 3 lbs.

If you prefer a different pull weight you simply select it from the drop down above and your Timney Trigger will be customized to your preference.
The #1 reason to replace your factory trigger with a Timney is accuracy. A lighter, crisper, more consistent trigger pull will make you more accurate with your firearm.

Below is a guide for pull weight selection:

2-2.5 pounds
Light trigger pull weights are great for people shooting lighter weight rifles as they can help keep you on target during the shot. Also common weights for target shooting from a bench.

3-3.5 pounds
By far the most common trigger pull weights -this is great for virtually all applications including target shooting, hunting and 3-gun competitions.

4.0 pounds+
Heavy trigger pull weights are good for cold weather hunting or applications where you may be shooting with gloves on.

Mauser 301 Featherweight Deluxe FD M98 FN

Posted by Steven Shannon on Mar 13th 2020

Great option that works great. Installation was a bit time consuming due to the need to sand the stock at the front of the Timney trigger housing. I sanded for about 40 minutes and that made enough room for the housing to fit snugly. Initially, the bolt was hard to cock, but after running the bolt open & closed for a while the sears seemed to start working well together. The rifle is an Interarms Mark X with the terrible non-adjustable trigger. I bought a Bell & Carlson Medallion Sporter stock and the action dropped in nicely, but the safety would not work without doing some inletting. Instead I bought the Timney Featherwieght Deluxe 301 trigger for FD M98 FN with integral safety and that solved the safety problem. The rifle was tremendously improved with an outstanding 2.5 lb trigger.

    Trigger for PH1200 Mauser

Posted by Kenneth Pitman on Apr 19th 2019

There is a pin that protrudes our of the left side of the trigger housing when the safety is engaged. There needs to be clearance for this pin or the safety will not engage. With the safety off the action slides easily in to the stock. But the safety will not engage, it is kind of difficult to determine what the problem is.

    Great Trigger

Posted by Terry Hardy on Mar 12th 2019

Have a Parker Hale 1200 and the trigger was terrible. Put the Timney trigger in and it works great. I ordered the wrong trigger at first and customer service was great and sent me the correct trigger. This the second Timney trigger I have ordered and it was for a Savage Axis. They are all great triggers. They are very easy to install if you follow the directions. You can't go wrong with this company.

    Awesome trigger!

Posted by  Ryan A. Evans from UT on Aug 14th 2018

I installed this trigger in a P.O. Ackley 7mm Rem Mag rifle that was built on an Interarms Mark X action. Originally, the rifle had a non-adjustable trigger that was horrible. A little relief work on the stock inletting was needed, but nothing too difficult. Now, with the Timney installed, the rifle is so much improved. Thanks, Timney for a great product.
P.S. This is the 5th or 6th Timney trigger I've installed in my rifles and they've all been superb.

    Interarms Whitworth Express

Posted by 3DogMike from Colorado on Jul 16th 2018

The FD M98 FN was a perfect drop in fit for my Interarms Whitworth Express (Mark X action). Stock wood required minor relieving of the safety cut for the safety. Triger is crisp, creep free, and right on 3lbs........Huge improvement over the stock trigger/safety.
