What Is Trigger Pull weight?

Pull weight is the amount of force, in ounces or pounds, required to fire the trigger. Or in other words, how hard you have to squeeze the trigger to shoot your rifle. Timney Trigger experts at our Phoenix, Arizona plant hand-test every trigger in its intended action and then set the pull weight at our factory standard, 3 lbs.

If you prefer a different pull weight you simply select it from the drop down above and your Timney Trigger will be customized to your preference.
The #1 reason to replace your factory trigger with a Timney is accuracy. A lighter, crisper, more consistent trigger pull will make you more accurate with your firearm.

Below is a guide for pull weight selection:

2-2.5 pounds
Light trigger pull weights are great for people shooting lighter weight rifles as they can help keep you on target during the shot. Also common weights for target shooting from a bench.

3-3.5 pounds
By far the most common trigger pull weights -this is great for virtually all applications including target shooting, hunting and 3-gun competitions.

4.0 pounds+
Heavy trigger pull weights are good for cold weather hunting or applications where you may be shooting with gloves on.

    788 trigger group

Posted by Russell L Bush on Sep 10th 2019

I purchased the Timney trigger group for the 788 Remington.
I was easy to install, although I could not get the original set screw in that stabilizes the trigger group.
I had ordered the trigger pull to be 2.5 pounds and it was very quick and crisp.
I would recommend the product to all.

    788 Trigger

Posted by Pat Finnie on Jul 23rd 2019

I have a very accurate Remington Model 788 in .243 Winchester. The O.E. trigger while it broke cleanly with no creep, it was an exceptionally heavy pull. I replaced it with a Timney trigger, factory set for 3 lbs. and wow what a difference ! Having a lighter pull with that crisp break and no creep is awesome ! The accuracy is more consistent with this trigger taking a little bit more of my own short comings out of the equation. Thanks Timney !

Tinney lives up to their reputation

Posted by Wayne from Texas on Jul 16th 2018

Recommend replacing the factory trigger (check authorized dealers for lower prices) with this one for both safety AND vastly improved performance: Factory safety mechanism has a large detent in FIRE, small on SAFE & they're right next to each other. It's far too easy to move from SAFE to FIRE while still hunting. If a twig gets inside the trigger guard while you're working through a thicket, BOOM. Tinney's 788 safety provides two equally firm, widely separated positions. Unintentionally bumping from SAFE to FIRE is 100X less likely. New, the Tinney safety is stiff. Cycling it 50 times & a drop of oil fixed it. How's the trigger itself? GREAT. Mine is 3.5 lbs out of the package with a crisp break. The mechanism is far superior to factory. It should be reliable for the life of the action. 788's are known for their accuracy. Tinney's trigger makes it far easier to achieve, from the bench or in the field AND improves safety. Buy it.

541.7% inflation on $129 from 1970 is $827.83 today, Craig.

This price is very fair for what you get. Craig doesn't know what he's talking about. Sorry, I had to. I'll be getting several Timney's in the near future, too. Good stuff.

    788 Trigger

Trigger works flawlessly but you may have to have some stock inletting done for the safety to operate correctly. After the inletting this trigger is just like every other Timney trigger I ever installed. Just rite!
